The Ilex representative in Russia is currently installing a Tigris system for testing Blood donations in Moscow.

The evaluation of an Immucor Echo system for Blood typing was successfully concluded. Ilex South Africa is now authorized to install the system in blood banks and hospitals in which blood donation are collected.

Prostate cancer gene 3 (PCA3) is a new gene-based test produced by Gen-Probe, performed on a urine sample. PCA3 is highly specific to Prostate Cancer (PCA) and therefore, in contrast to PSA, not increased by conditions such as benign enlargement or inflammation of the prostate. If you are concerned about PCA because of an elevated PSA or are feeling insecure about a previously performed (negative) biopsy, the PCA3 urine test can provide additional information that may help you and your doctor to decide whether a (new) biopsy is really needed.

Our distinguished guests gave fascinating lectures:

• Dr. Sven Thamm, Scientific & Marketing Director Infectious Diseases presented Abbott mSystems including:
  m2000sp - Abbott DNA & RNA extraction system and 
  m2000rt – Abbott Real Time PCR system.
  In addition, Dr. Sven gave a broad overview on Abbott Real Time  PCR assays including HCV, HBV, HIV, HPV, CMV, Chlamydia and  HCV Genotyping.
  
• Prof. Daniel Shouval, Director -Liver Unit Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Kerem Jerusalem, gave a lecture on "Occult Hepatitis B" and showed the importance of HBV viral load testing.
  
• Prof. Jacob Bornstein, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Western Galilee Hospital Nahariya and the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Hatechnion University, gave a lecture on : " HPV – The Most Prevalent Sexually Transmitted Disease" and showed the importance of early detection of HPV and its importance for the prevention of cervical cancer.
